Garston Defibrillator Awareness Session
   
On Thursday 12th March an awareness session was held at Garston Masonic Hall.
W Bro Derek Horrocks the PGM’s Special Representative for Garston Group of Mark Lodges arranged for the hall to be made available for people to attend the session. Over 40 people attended they included brethren from the Mark and Craft lodges, with their friends and families.
Our Provincial Grand Master welcomed everybody, and outlined the purpose of the evening, the introduction of various people took place, including the following, Kevin Garvey (representative from the defibrillator supplier and presenter for the evening), V W Bro Michael Clarke, Assistant PGM (organiser and negotiator for the supply and installation of the defibrillators’) W Bro Tony Farrar Provincial G.J.W, also the Craft Liverpool Group Vice Chairman W Bro Bob Povall.
A demonstration then took place, a video was shown which starred Rowan Atkinson this was amusing but hit home some good points.
The content of the course was approved by the North West Ambulance Service.
Following this section, a number of people including our PGM, then had a practice on the resuscitation doll.
 
In the final section a series of questions and answers took place the following are an example.
 
  • Battery life 4 years,
  • Life of pads 2 years,
  • Paediatric pads can be purchased,
  • Machine can be used outdoors,
  • If a person is wearing an oxygen mask it should be removed,
  • Approximately 38,000 lives a year could be saved
  • There is a 75% survival chance
 
Our PGM concluded the evening with a quote borrowed from Sir Winston Churchill.
